Neons from Heaven

‘Neons from Heaven’ is a poetic, sculptural installation that is hung from the rooftop or ceiling and provides a dramatic statement in a large space. The installation was commissioned and constructed in 2019 for the Sculpt and Art Trail in North Yorkshire in the United Kingdom and was on public display at St Mary’s Church in Masham in North Yorkshire from May until September 2019. It is now available for sale. The work consists of 100 large hanging canvas tubes or ‘neons’ and is an artistic interpretation that represents a moment of human encounter when the guidance, that we often seek externally, is found reflected within ourselves. The blue tubes or neons represent the horizon when the sea and the sky meet and each tube has a raw edge of canvas running down its length. From below, the viewer looks up to see themselves reflected back by mirrors in the base of the tubes. All the tubes are ready to hang with metallic eyelets on the top of each tube. Each one is hung by transparent nylon thread that can be attached to hooks on the rooftop or ceiling. There are 100 painted canvas tubes of varying diameters that range from 5.5 cm to 10 cm (2 – 4 inches) and varying heights from 50 cm to 200 cm (20 – 80 inches). The tubes are hung one by one, approximately 10 cm (4 inches) apart and each tube weighs approximately 2 kg.

Description

Silvia Lerin moved to London in 2014 after developing an established career as an artist in Spain where she was represented by Gallery La Nave in Valencia and in Germany by Sophien Edition gallery in Berlin. Her created objects/assemblages stem from an interest in the relationships between shapes, volumes, colours and textures and their resulting presence. Inspiration may come from found objects and remnants of objects that carry stories, from fissures or folds in materials or from organic shapes and structures. She has exhibited her work in the Prairie Center of the Arts in Peoria, IL, USA, and received an award from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, New York in 2014 that funded her to come to London, where she decided to stay.
