Lucie Rie

If I had £100,000, perhaps I might buy a stoneware dinner service from 1968 by Dame Lucie Rie with thin glaze and manganese rims. This 50 piece dinner service represents the largest collection of domestic tableware by Lucie Rie ever to have been offered on the open market. Each item is impressed with an LR seal on the base and constitutes 12 large plates, 12 side plates, 12 squeezed bowls, 12 small round bowls, 2 casserole dishes with lids. It was a wedding present given to the current owner by her parents in 1968. The current owner and her husband were well acquainted with Lucie Rie (who died in 1995) and often visited her studio at 18 Albion Mews (The studio remained almost unchanged during the 50 years she occupied it and has been reconstructed in V&A’s ceramics gallery).
